You're welcome here!
If you are looking for a church home, we would be thrilled to have you join us. There are many reasons to become a member of a local church. For one thing, the concept of church membership is a biblical one that offers many benefits. Membership carries with it a measure of commitment that gives stability to the church body and to each of its members. Along with that commitment comes accountability, a necessary aspect for people who are serious about success in any area of their lives. Membership in a local body also gives a person a sense of community and a place to serve. The Bible describes our time on earth as “a vapor.” It makes sense that our time, talents, and gifts should be focused on something greater than ourselves, for the time we have here is merely “a drop in a bucket” compared to the rest of eternity that follows it.
At Grass Lake Baptist Church, staying true to the doctrines of the Word of God is of utmost importance; therefore, one must follow the biblical guidelines outlined in Scripture (and laid out below) to become a member of this local body.
Biblical Guidlines for Membership
1. First a person must be what the Bible calls “saved.” God has offered the free gift of salvation to anyone who will recognize his sinfulness, believe that Christ’s death on the cross is the only valid payment for His sin, abandon his own attempts at righteousness, and invite Christ into his life to be his own personal Savior.
2. Once a person is saved, the next step he needs to take is baptism. This step is taken after salvation. It is not part of salvation; rather, it is the first step of obedience as a child of God.
3. When a person is saved and baptized in a biblical manner, he is a candidate for church membership, and it is important for him to find a church home that is doctrinally sound in philosophy and practice and that emphasizes biblical teaching and preaching.
4. Once a person is saved, baptized, and plugged in as a member of a Bible-believing church, he begins the exciting process of exploring how he is gifted and where his gifts can be used in his local church. He will find that using the gifts the Holy Spirit imparted to him upon salvation gives him a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
